F is for FAYE: A brand new addition to the Library of Dresses

Hey there! Diane here.

We've been overdue for a blog post, so I thought I'd pop in and introduce you to one of our newest styles: The Faye Dress.

We needed a girl's name for a cotton dress that started with the letter F because our Library of Dress was missing one! (You can check out our Library of Dresses here.)

The design for the Faye had actually been floating around in my head for quite some time. I wanted to create a woven cotton version of our much-loved bamboo Joy Dress. Sounds simple enough, right?

Well... not exactly. From a patternmaking standpoint, the transition from bamboo knit to woven cotton was not as easy as you might think. Woven and stretch fabrics behave completely differently, so it wasn't just a matter of swapping one for the other. I also had two important goals for this design. First was to design a dress that would fit a wider range of busts, and also to fit longer in the waist length.

The result is a dress with a waist length that's similar to our past Angelina fit, along with a longer overall skirt. On someone taller, the Faye should fall below the knee, while on someone of shorter height it wears beautifully as a midi dress.

We've also been carrying a great selection of crinolines (or petticoats if you prefer) in 3 sizes that fit up to a true size 3X. I find the biggest size is the one that fits me most comfortably and I'm a 1X. That's what I'm wearing in both photos.

As always, we were completely blown away by all the creative names you submitted during our naming contest. You never disappoint!

And before I sign off... I can't believe this completely snuck up on me.

I realized that this August 2026 marks 15 years of Cherry Velvet! (since 2011!)
