When I was younger, I’m afraid I didn’t appreciate my grandmother quite as much as I should have. Funny how that happens, isn’t it? But as the years have gone by, I’ve found myself thinking about her more and more, and memories of her have become dear to me.
Her name was Agnes, although she went by Nancy. And according to my aunt, she was a bit of a wild woman in her younger days. That was about as much information as I ever got on that particular chapter of her life, which, naturally, makes me even more curious!
My grandma was only 5 feet tall, so when I designed a 60s-inspired sheath dress, I thought of her. I decided it was finally time to name a dress after my 'Nan'. And suitably, Nancy is particularly lovely on short to average-height women.
Nancy is a little different from some of our other styles. I’ve given her a slightly looser waist, making her wonderfully comfortable, especially during hot weather.
I have to say, I love the prints I chose for Nancy. Choosing which ones to keep for myself has been quite the struggle. There may be a little Nancy hoarding happening behind the scenes!
She’s absolutely perfect for the hot weather we’re having right now, but I’m already dreaming about styling Nancy for fall. She looks rather fabulous with a cardigan, boots and a few autumnal accessories, don't you think?
It feels especially nice to finally have a dress named for my grandmother. A small tribute, perhaps, but one I’m very happy to give her. I think my grandma would have loved the way we styled this look. She would have called these dresses 'jumpers' and she would have loved this Tart 'n Sweet version, being a Scot. In her younger days she would totally have worn this dress with a bonnie tam perched on her head at a jaunty angle, just like this!
