  We have some big news....!
  

  
  
  After many years in Vancouver, we are moving our operations to New Westminster. We close our doors in East Vancouver, at the end of June. We will definitely miss the bright and creative atmosphere of this neighbourhood; it was always so inspiring to be surrounded by local artists. 
  
  We've made so many memories in this studio. One of the first notable ones is our #stunningatanysize shoot which we made right before we moved into our fresh new space.
  
  
  
  Since then, we've done so many photoshoots and events, What a pleasure it's been to be here. <3

• A Note from Kim, our Social Media Manager

  I don’t think I’ve ever been as excited about a new job as I was on my first day at Cherry Velvet. I knew I loved the product and the brand, and I was looking forward to workdays spent using words and images to promote gorgeous dresses across the internet.

  

  I knew that there was an enormous amount I could learn in this role. It’s been amazing to watch the design process, and to see how a concept becomes a garment. I came to more fully understand what “Made in Canada” really means, and I was proud to be working at business run by a female entrepreneur whose business model insisted that every stitch be sewn here in BC. I also fell in love with the fabric selection process – there is so much cool stuff out there! No spoilers allowed, but let me simply say that there are some awesome dresses coming.

  

  Working the studio shops was incredibly rewarding. I know how difficult it can be to find outfits that make you feel good. Today’s stores are full of cheaply-made, disposable clothing that fits poorly and flatters few. At Cherry Velvet, my most memorable shoppers were the ones who came in with low expectations, defeated from past shopping disappointments. It was a joy to watch the excitement level grow when they realized that they looked amazing, not just in one dress, but in so many styles! I joined in the giddiness when shoppers discovered fabrics that suited them perfectly. Having friends who came by and ending up finding things they loved was an excellent added bonus.

  

  Unfortunately, my time at Cherry Velvet is ending. Why? Every time that my partner and I have visited the Okanagan, we’ve wanted to stay. He was way down the transfer list, so we thought it would be years before we could get out of the city and into the small-town life we were craving – we were shocked when we were told that he’d start at the Kelowna office in March 2019! Relocating means that I need to leave my position here.

  

  I started as a Cherry Velvet customer, and became a proud team member. Now, I’ll go back to buying and wearing the dresses as a consumer (this Stacy dress is at the top of my shopping list!), but I’ll keep my pockets full of business cards. I need to keep telling the world why this is a great company with wonderful products, and I will keep spreading the gospel of retro class with modern sass!

  Farewell... but not good-bye!

• Meet Kim - Our New Social Media Manager!

  Hello! My name is Kim Palmer, and I am delighted to introduce myself as Cherry Velvet’s new social media manager. In the last year or so, I became a loyal customer and enthusiastic promoter of this wonderful company, and the dresses became part of the "fabric" of my life. Now, my passion has become my profession, and I’ve been asked to tell you a bit more about me and how I got here.

  I was born and raised in small-town southwestern Ontario and have been a voracious reader and constant writer for as long as I can remember. Shortly after completing a degree in English at Queen’s University, I relocated to beautiful Vancouver, BC. My employment history has included many industries: tourism, retail clothing sales, call centres, environmental consulting, and most recently, mining.

  

  Outside of work, I feed my soul with eclectic hobbies. Every June and December, you can find me on stage with The Broadway Chorus, a local theatre group that uses existing songs to create original, fully-staged musicals. I practice and gig with a cover band we call Carbon Copy. I’m also a member of the Vancouver Lego Club, and I help to coordinate BrickCan, Western Canada’s largest public LEGO® exhibition. My other passion is figure skating; I spend more time in the stands than on the ice these days, but skating news tends to dominate my Twitter feed.

  

  About a year ago, some friends introduced me to Cherry Velvet online. I instantly fell in love with Shelly dress, and the variety of lovely, curvy models on the website gave me hope that the dress might work on me. I’d been struggling in recent years to figure out where to shop – so many of the stores I visited seemed to be geared to either teenagers or to an older generation. As a forty-something living on the borderline between regular and plus sizes, where were the clothes that would make me feel fabulous? I went to my first Studio Shop and was positively giddy with what I found. Twirling skirts! Colourful fabrics! Could it be… pockets?!!? I immediately bought two dresses, then started planning my next purchases.

  

  At first, I saved my dresses for “special occasions”, but I soon discovered that I could justify buying more dresses by wearing them more often. Before long, I realized that Cherry Velvet had become my signature style. Friends, co-workers, and even strangers complimented my growing collection of dresses. I began to carry business cards in the pockets (which also allowed me to show off the pockets!), and I organized group outings to the studio. Now, I’ve joined the amazing team here, and I’m dedicating myself to spreading the gospel of Retro Class with Modern Sass.
