Get to know our models!
Published Oct 20 2022 in #pinupgirl, #plussizepinup, models, pinup, pinupmodel
If you've been following us for a while you may have noticed a few lovely new faces modeling our dresses. So we figured why not put them in the spotlight with an introduction?
Fun fact; All three of these babes are mama's! Proving that living your best pin-up life doesn't just have to be a day dream after having kids. You are stunning, worthy and absolutely deserve to shine.
Now let's meet these ladies...
La Toya captured us with her bright eyes, gorgeous smile and irresistible dimples.
But she's also a complete power house! A single mom of 3 currently battling long Covid & Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome but not letting anything get in the way of her goals. La Toya is the owner of Go2Girl Services which she started after fleeing an abusive relationship. Her business has won numerous awards including the 2022 Small Business of the Year and the 2020 Young Entrepreneur of the year. La Toya is a lover of musicals, all things pink and has a soft spot for dogs. She's also a self-proclaimed Aladdin and Jack Sparrow fanatic (she even has tattoos of the genie and captain!)
We look forward to more photoshoots with this brave beauty!
Who's that gal with the fierce red locks, adorable freckles and killer smile? Why it's Miss Rebecca Rouge! This babe is a single mama of 3 boys, which makes her a superhero in our book! She has a penchant for thrifting, especially for vintage sewing machines and cameras. Her youngest (age 7) loves picking out her dresses to wear, and he has plenty of choice in the wardrobe department too, as she owns over 80 pairs of heels and 2 dresses for every pair! We love a personal stylist!
Her beauty secret is that she uses a red liquid matte lipstick in her eyebrows every day so that it matches her hair.
Snow White's got nothing on this raven haired bombshell! Melanie, aka Cherry Lee Lewis is a mom to an adorable baby boy and a professional event planner, having worked on over 1000 events. This crafty queen loves to sew costumes for pin-up pageants, photo shoots and of course, Halloween! She's a big Elvis fan and even got engaged at Graceland. Her favourite place in the world is New Orleans. Mmmm beignets!
Are you interested in modeling for us and located in the Greater Vancouver area? We are always keeping our eyes peeled for new models for our photoshoots.

The Final Library of Dresses: Chapter "T - Z"
Published Aug 05 2021 in #cherryvelvet, #madeincanada, #madmen, #pinupgirl, #plussizedresses
Ta-Dah! You've made it to the final exciting installment of our dress archives. So... last but certainly not least and with out further ado; here are the final fabulous frocks from T - Z...
TATYANA
Named for a Cherry Velvet staff member, the Tatyana was introduced in the fall of 2015 for a one-time production. She was very sassy indeed with her plunging V neckline, criss cross straps and daring cold shoulders. She came in popular prints that featured artistic animal motifs like these hidden tiger prints by Tula Pink.
TRUDY
Sweet Trudy was an adorable day dress that made a striking style statement. Trudy had a little attitude thanks to short puffy sleeves, a collar, a V neckline and a row of bold buttons on the bodice. She was suitable for work, lunch with the girls or dinner out on the town. What do you think, perhaps we should bring Trudy back?
VANESSA
Vanessa was a charmer that answered the call for dresses that were perfect to wear to work. She was very popular and flattering for many body shapes. Vanessa featured a V neck, short sleeves and buttons up the front of the bodice. She came in many amazing prints, probably the most memorable was our Ms. Frizzle Dress in a print that was out of this world.....
VERONICA
Aptly named for legendary screen siren, Veronica Lake. She was the perfect curvy dress for the sexy secretary style that we could see celebrated in Mad Men. The first time Veronica came out was very early on in the Fall of 2012. She flaunted a contrast collar, sweetheart neckline, 3/4 cuffed sleeves and a full skirt. Veronica is especially memorable since she was our very first dress to be made in our signature cherry print.
Yes, we made 2 Veronica dresses! The second time we named a dress Veronica, it was for our long time model Veronica Belle. Now this was a party dress that every girl dreamed of! The full circle skirt was perfect to wear with a crinoline. This classic confection was made in pretty shades of satin, with a fitted bodice, waistband and finished with a perky bow. She was the Belle of the ball and perfect for dancing the night away!
VIOLA
The bold colour-block style of Viola was featured in the spring of 2015. Diane pulled her inspiration from the geometric styles and eye-catching colours of the 1960's. This dress was made in a smooth rayon-poly blend. The tricky negative space gave the illusion of a tiny waist. How great was that? Viola was a streamlined design that came in two colourways; Coral/Black and Royal/Black.
ZOE
Zoe was a sweet and sassy sundress with a rockabilly attitude. She had a V neck with ruching in the front and was made in several darling florals as well as cool metallic mod dot prints. She had an A-line skirt and pockets. We'll never forget the fun retro road trip we took with this style in a gorgeous vintage gold Thunderbird! Here's a look back to that amazing memory and the beautiful pictures that share a glimpse into those rockin' good times.
And so we have reached the conclusion of our first decade of dress designs. Yes, that's 10 years of fashion shoots, photographers, stylists, models, hair & make-up and mishaps along the way.
This fun-filled journey would not have been possible without the contributions of many who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make these dresses a reality. The seemingly endless work of designing, fitting, fabric selection, and production are only a small part of the labour of love that is Cherry Velvet. Our heartfelt appreciation goes out our supportive team of staff, models, and friends who have helped the brand thrive.
We hope you'll take the time to write us and tell us which styles you love and if there are any that you would like us to make again for you. Feel free to send us an e-mail or comment on our social posts. Or watch for a survey coming soon.
Cheers to another 10 years! As we sign off we're busy ordering beautiful new prints and planning new must-have dresses for you to love....

A Library of Dress Designs: Chapter "A"
Published Feb 18 2021 in #cherryvelvet, #dressdesigns, #history, #madeincanada, #pinupgirl, #plusmodel, #retrodress
In 2021 we celebrated 10 years of Cherry Velvet! Can you believe it!? We've been making beautiful dresses in Canada for you to love and having a blast doing it!
We're starting to mark this milestone by reminiscing on these past 10 years. We thought you would enjoy seeing a complete pictorial history of all our dress designs. You'll get to revisit each of the names, designs, favourite prints and all the lovely women that have modelled our dresses for you to collect over the years.
Let's begin our journey down memory lane with the letter "A"....
ADELE
Named after the famous singer songwriter, the Adele was an elegant wiggle dress we could imagine the woman Adele actually wearing. She made a one time only appearance back in June of 2013 here on beautiful and curvaceous Ruby Roxx.
ADALINE
Inspired by the movie and beautiful dresses from The Age of Adaline, the Adaline had a vintage inspired, 1940's appeal. She made her appearance in 2015 at our photo shoot at historic Galbraith Manor on Ruby Roxx and Kaleigh Almond. Adaline's unique cutout neckline sure did turn heads.ALICE
Croquet anyone? Models Veronica Belle and Ruby Roxx show off the Alice dress while playing lawn games at beautiful Momiji Gardens at Hastings Park. The Alice dress featured several hidden animal prints by fabric designer Tula Pink. The Alice was released only once in the summer of 2016.ANGELINA
The Angelina made her first debut in the Fall of 2015. She's a style we've since repeated many times. With a longer, more natural waistline, Angelina is a great choice for average height to taller girls. She features a stunning back detail; two straps twisted in the middle to make your exit as memorable as your entrance! She's a long time favourite of many customers and is still available to this day.
ANNETTE
Our very first big official photo shoot was at the historic diner, Savon Meats with photographer Shimona Henry of Pin-up Perfection Photography in January of 2013. This was also the very first ever photo shoot for our patternmaker Genesis Hiles and model Elly Mayday. The Annette dress made an unforgettable apperance with her unique U shaped Peter Pan collar and a lovely open back detail all accented with contrast piping.
Annette came back once more in Spring 2018, but this time with the addition of a full skirt.
AUDREY
In all these years of making dresses, we've only made one actual velvet dress called the Audrey named after our designer Diane's Mom. For Holiday 2012, it came in three colours of sumptuous rayon velvet; royal blue, dark green and midnight navy.
AURORA
Named after the Disney princess from Sleeping Beauty, this dress was certainly made for a girly girl. It had a mock wrap, pleated bodice, short puffed sleeves, a very full skirt and a generously wide tie belt to tie in a bow. We made it in cotton prints but also in several solid special occasion fabrics too.
AVA
Named after the elegant 1940's star, Ava Gardener, the Ava was the only peplum style we ever released. She was an early style that debuted in 2012. This was Danielle Keil first photo shoot with us, she was a Cherry velvet employee as well as a favourite model.
AUDREY
The sweet Audrey dress is a fun day to day style named after the Breakfast at Tiffany's star Audrey Hepburn. It hard short sleeves, a modest scoop neckline and A-line skirt.
I hope you've enjoyed the first chapter from our dress archives as we look back at designs named with the letter "A". Stay tuned for more...
P.S. When the whole library is complete, we'll save it permanently on our website so you can look through it any time.
