The holiday season is upon us, and with it, the most fun part (for many): Parties! Offices, families and friend groups alike are organizing merry celebrations for the end of the year. Gift exchanges, delicious dinners… And dressing up! It's all part of the fun. How many of us wait all year for this time to shine?

Are you a bond girl, femme fatale, or a smoke show bombshell? This is the outfit for you! A glimmering black dress - our Lana in Black Shimmer. With its seductive curved V neckline, when paired with our red chiffon crinoline... It's like the Louboutin of party dresses. Yuletide Sensation
When traditional, magical Christmas captures your heart, you'll be perfectly suited for out Brigitte in Festive Fairies print! Magical folks frolicking amongst poinsettias, perfectly evoke the ancient traditions of the season. A black chiffon crinoline gives this dress lovely volume, and our Claire capelet will cover your shoulders in whimsical, magical drape. Halloween is Brewing - Our 2019 Halloween Event

On October 4th and 5th this year, we hosted an event at our Vancouver studio, called "Halloween is Brewing".
Although it was quite a bit earlier in the month than these celebrations would usually be, we figured it would be a fun opportunity to get in the spirit of the season and shop for themed outfits. After all, for those who wait for this holiday all year, it's never too early to spook things up!
We decorated our whole studio with bats, spiders, monsters, and all things ghastly. Our dress forms were beheaded and bloody just for the occasion. Upon arrival, we had a special spot for all our flying guests to park their brooms. Diane's inspiration truly came through on our (perhaps intoxicated from too much of that "brew") witch splattered in a corner.
And so many hilarious captions were made for this by some of you!
We also had Kelly, the Booze Witch with her flavour enhancers for sampling. These interesting elixirs and shrubs are made with vinegar and unique flavours such as Elderflower and Strawberry Black Pepper. Just a few drops of these delicious concoctions will add amazing flavour to beverages, seasonings, and of course, cocktails!
Logan, our photographer, set up an eerie scene with a moonlit path and gate backdrop. He expertly positioned a light from the back, so the glow was as ethereal as it was actually real.
We were also equipped with a smoke machine, for that extra freaky foggy effect that made you feel lost in the woods on a cold October night - just like Halloween should be!
Standing in front of this set, it seemed anyone would be inspired to give out a cackle or two...
As seen on the left, some may have really, really enjoyed the smoke.
It was so much fun to see our customers come and have a great time at our ghastly studio, taking photos in our Halloween dresses and props. I think we can say we successfully stepped right into the spirit(s).

Get Ready for Galentine’s Day!

Let’s face it – Valentine’s Day can be stressful. If you’re in a relationship, there are so many expectations built up around creating a perfect date. If you don’t have a significant other, you’re inundated with media messaging about how supremely important romance is supposed to be in our lives. How did it all get so complicated?
Remember when we were in grade school, and we used to give out Valentine’s cards? They were handwritten and sweet, and we all gave one to everyone in the classroom.
Let’s get back to celebrating friendship. Get ready to celebrate Galentine’s Day!
Did you know?
We did some homework, and learned that the Galentine’s Day tradition originated in 2010 in an episode of Parks and Recreation. The show’s lead character, played by Amy Poehler, throws her annual "Galentine's Day" party for her female friends. This festive event takes place on the day before Valentine's Day, and is all about celebrating the unique bonds between women.
How do I celebrate?Make a plan to celebrate the fabulous women in your life.
We lean on our female friends, because we know we can. These are the ladies who are there for you through every crisis, every celebration, every upheaval, everything! Think back to some off the best times in your life, and we’ll bet that your girlfriends were involved in more than a few.
On February 13, gather your besties and enjoy the laughter and joy of an epic girls’ outing.
What should I wear?
A night out is more fun when you all primp and prep and sparkle! Choose a Cherry Velvet dress with flowers or hearts, like our Brigitte dress in Sacred Heart, for a themed look.

Here at Cherry Velvet, we’re really proud of what we do.
It’s so rewarding to see a customer’s face when the fit is just right, and the colour and pattern help create a new favourite look. We love seeing pictures on social media and hearing stories about how gorgeous we helped you look and feel. There’s also a lot of satisfaction that comes from knowing that we’re supporting the local economy by having our dresses sewn here in Vancouver, and from purchasing accessories and bath products from other BC small businesses.
We couldn’t do it without you, our wonderful, unique, beautiful customers. Your support and business means the world to us. We want to thank all of you who tell the world much you love Cherry Velvet; every tag on Facebook or Instagram, every forwarded email, and every business card you pull out of your handy dress pockets is extremely appreciated.

The Spiced Cherry Sizzle - Cocktail Recipe

A couple Christmases ago, our office mixologist, Logan, created this delightful cocktail and we just had to share it with you all again. We think it's the perfect holiday drink with all the sass & class that everyone expects from Cherry Velvet.
Ingredients:
- 1oz Vodka 1/3oz Fireball (Cinnamon Whisky)
- 1oz Cherry Brandy
- 1/3oz Maraschino Cherry Syrup
- 2oz Club Soda
- 1x Maraschino Cherry (as garnish)
Required glassware/tools:
- Champagne Saucer (sub for martini glass)
- Cocktail Shaker with Strainer Shot Glass (for measuring)
- Metal Garnish Skewer (mini sword)
- Crushed Ice
Directions:
- Combine Vodka, Fireball and Crushed Ice into a cocktail shaker. Shake until cold (5-8 seconds).
- Strain mixture into glass.
- Combine Cherry Brandy and Maraschino Cherry Syrup into the shaker (no ice). Swirl to combine (5-8 seconds).
- Pour mixture (slowly) into a glass.
- Top with Club Soda.
- Garnish with a skewered Maraschino Cherry.
