We have some big news....!
After many years in Vancouver, we are moving our operations to New Westminster. We close our doors in East Vancouver, at the end of June. We will definitely miss the bright and creative atmosphere of this neighbourhood; it was always so inspiring to be surrounded by local artists.
We've made so many memories in this studio. One of the first notable ones is our #stunningatanysize shoot which we made right before we moved into our fresh new space.
Since then, we've done so many photoshoots and events, What a pleasure it's been to be here. <3

Logan's Cherry-versary!
Published May 01 2020 in Cherry Velvet, Customer Appreciation, gratitude, Staff, Thank you
While sitting in our abodes in the past few weeks, (hopefully) dressed in our favourite frocks, we've had plenty of time to think. And although there is much to think about - like what you can name this new print at Cherry Velvet, or what to wear for your Netflix-on-the-couch date - there is also, in many of us, a new appreciation for what's most important in our lives.
As a business owner, a big part of my life is this company I've spent so many years building and so I find myself filled with gratitude for so many things right now.
In this moment, the number one object of my appreciation is certainly my staff. These swell folks have supported our business and myself through with their strength and positivity - creating wonderful posts, colouring pages, contests, and promoting the Cherry Velvet sweetness in so many different ways.
Thank you, Logan, Tracy and Julia! ❤️
The gang, currently not as physically tight *Photo taken Feb 2020This week, it's also Logan's 7 year work anniversary here at Cherry Velvet! I have so much gratitude for him as my longest employee - photographer, art director, creative genius, and official water gallon replacer (check out those guns!). He makes my (business) world go 'round with his fantastic, bright and fun ideas, always being there to fix any problem. He is not only a top-notch employee, but also a top-notch gent with his awesome, thoughtful character. Thank you, Logan, and happy Cherry-versary!
On top of all that, I can't forget how I am so grateful to all of YOU, my Cherry Velvet customers. Whether you're just stunning in your stylish frocks, or being hilarious and witty with your print name suggestions, and really just every time you leave a like and a thoughtful comment on our posts: we truly appreciate each and every one of you! We are so thankful for your support. You are the poof in our crinolines, the sweetness in our cherries, and the very reason we continue to do what we do. Much love to you all! ❤️
Stay strong and stay dressed!

It's been another wonderful year, we thank you, all of our beautiful fans and customers for your support. It absolutely fills our hearts with joy to see our customers smiling; our dresses making you feel confident and ready for anything.

Wishing you the happiest of holidays, the merriest of Christmases and nothing but the very best for the New Year and beyond.

Cherry Velvet and Fluevog - The Perfect Pair
Published Nov 08 2019 in Canadian Designer, Cherry Velvet Dresses, Cherry Velvet/Fluevog Match, Customer Appreciation, Fluevog, John Fluevog, Made In Canada, Made in Vancouver
"One of the best compliments I've ever received was from my customer telling me she has a ton of Fluevogs, but even more of my dresses" ~ Diane Kennedy, designer
And what a collection our client, Jacqueline has!
It has been a long-held truth for many Cherry Velvet dress collectors that nothing really goes better with our unique dresses than a pair of Fluevog shoes. We like to think there is nothing so loyal as a Cherry Velvet/Fluevog client. They go together like gin & tonic, peanut butter & jelly or a cup & saucer - You get the idea. ;)
Over the years, many of our clients have brought their Fluevog shoes with them when they come dress shopping in our Studio. There have been many happy discussions about which shoes go with which dress.
We're blown away by this fabulous photo sent to us by our customer Jacqueline.
She's laid out all her dresses in a rainbow -
There was some question about how many there actually were but the final tally is 50 dresses!Jacqueline has her own unique approach to her dress/shoe collaborations. She prefers to pick one perfect combination of matching shoes and dress that she wears more exclusively together. Of course, some dresses have more than one perfect shoe match; But the choices are always fluid, never static.
Can we just say wow! What a work of art this photo is!Also known as @_cuddlefish_ on Instagram, she has an undeniable eye for colour and detail. Check out her lovely IG photos; mostly of her travels and nature. We feel so flattered that she's shared her amazing eye for fashion and corresponding photos with us! :)
Thank you, Jacqueline! <3XOX Cherry Velvet

Halloween is Brewing - Our 2019 Halloween Event
Published Oct 17 2019 in Cherry Velvet Dresses, Customer Appreciation, Halloween, Holidays
On October 4th and 5th this year, we hosted an event at our Vancouver studio, called "Halloween is Brewing".
Although it was quite a bit earlier in the month than these celebrations would usually be, we figured it would be a fun opportunity to get in the spirit of the season and shop for themed outfits. After all, for those who wait for this holiday all year, it's never too early to spook things up!
We decorated our whole studio with bats, spiders, monsters, and all things ghastly. Our dress forms were beheaded and bloody just for the occasion. Upon arrival, we had a special spot for all our flying guests to park their brooms. Diane's inspiration truly came through on our (perhaps intoxicated from too much of that "brew") witch splattered in a corner.
And so many hilarious captions were made for this by some of you!
We also had Kelly, the Booze Witch with her flavour enhancers for sampling. These interesting elixirs and shrubs are made with vinegar and unique flavours such as Elderflower and Strawberry Black Pepper. Just a few drops of these delicious concoctions will add amazing flavour to beverages, seasonings, and of course, cocktails!
Logan, our photographer, set up an eerie scene with a moonlit path and gate backdrop. He expertly positioned a light from the back, so the glow was as ethereal as it was actually real.
We were also equipped with a smoke machine, for that extra freaky foggy effect that made you feel lost in the woods on a cold October night - just like Halloween should be!
Standing in front of this set, it seemed anyone would be inspired to give out a cackle or two...
As seen on the left, some may have really, really enjoyed the smoke.
It was so much fun to see our customers come and have a great time at our ghastly studio, taking photos in our Halloween dresses and props. I think we can say we successfully stepped right into the spirit(s).Please enjoy these pictures, and if you still need your freaky frock for the spooky season - pay us a visit this week. Our studio is still decorated (although no photo area anymore, unfortunately) and we have a selection of Halloween dresses on sale - also available online!
Thank you all who joined and hope to see you at our next Studio Shop this weekend!

Saturday, October 19th - 11am to 5pm

Happy Thanksgiving!
Published Oct 11 2019 in Cherry Velvet Dresses, Customer Appreciation, gratitude, Made In Canada, thanksgiving
By Cherry Velvet Designer + Creator, Diane Kennedy.
My wonderful customers, if it wasn’t for you, Cherry Velvet wouldn’t be here. I know that’s a bit of a cliché but it’s the honest truth. It's what gets me up in the morning and is a constant reminder that I'm truly blessed...
My favourite time of year (fall) makes me remember that I am literally living my dream. I knew I wanted to be a designer and make beautiful dresses for women of all sizes when was I just a little girl. Being able to fulfill that dream and continue to make my clothes exclusively in Canada makes it even more special.
I'm especially thankful for my staff; the hardworking people that support me every single day. Logan Rudrum, my Media Director, has been my rock and unfailing support for the past 6 years. Barb Wilkins, in Customer Service, is the lovely lady that helps me take care of all of you. Julia Leal, my new Social Media Coordinator, is fitting in very well with the team. And, I'm thrilled to say, my marketing assistant, Tracy Po is getting better every day and scheduled to return to us very soon. (She was recently back at our studio for the first time during our Halloween is Brewing Event!)
I'm also grateful for the support of my sales agent and model, Leah Tuttle. We just finished a beautiful photoshoot with her that I'm looking forward to sharing with you.
Thanksgiving is important. Giving thanks and feeling gratitude for what you have; a simple concept and yet we often forget to feel grateful. Whatever you do to celebrate this time of year, may it bring you happiness and contentment.

That Gleam In Her Eye...
Published Jun 28 2019 in Cherry Velvet, Customer Appreciation, Fashion, handmade revolution, jewelry, Made In Canada, what's new
As a proudly Canadian company, we love working with local brands and businesses that exemplify the level of care & quality that we maintain ourselves.
...So...that being said...
...have you met Pam? ♥️
She's the lovely face & talented hands of Mirror Mirror Bijoux, a well-known local jewellery designer here in Vancouver, BC and an overall entrepreneurial force.
She also loves our dresses 😘 (She's Team Chrissy!)
Under MMB, she designs and handmakes vintage-inspired jewellery that echoes old Hollywood glamour. Primarily working in crystal and glass, she adds elegant detail like ethereal finishes that sparkle like the night's sky. She’ll often also incorporate real vintage beads or brooches into her pieces, giving that legit Vintage vibe.
CV Aficionados will be quite familiar with her & MMB, we not only carry her jewellery, including exclusive pieces, but she sometimes drops by our events...
...and often pops in to collaborate with our designer, on the next beautiful baubles to go with our dresses.
Whenever they meet, they pour over a multitude of beads and pendants, to create complementary pieces that add versatility and flair to our clients' wardrobe.
Recently, she's branched out to save us all from the worst thing imaginable...A bad hair day!
Have you tried a Great Hair Day Turband? We have!
They're easy-to-wear, insta-wow accessories for those days when a ponytail or plain ol' hat simply won't do.
Want to try one? Pam will be on hand at our next studio shop weekend @ 1635 Powell Street with a variety to try!
Friday :: July 5th :: 2pm-7pm
Saturday :: July 6th :: 11am-5pm
We hope you enjoyed this little spotlight on one of our favourite local entrepreneurs.
We think it's so important to support our fellow #womeninbusiness ♥️XOX Cherry Velvet

The Snow Family: A "Cherry" Tale (Part 1)
Published May 31 2019 in Cherry Velvet, Customer Appreciation, Made In Canada
In the many years that we have been in operations here in beautiful Vancouver, BC, we've watched our customers come and grow into an enthusiastic, body positive community.
Feeling so blessed to have such wonderful people supporting us, we wanted to take a moment or two to recognize one such family, who have been delighting us at our studio with their excitement and charm since 2014.
May we present to you, The Snow Family.
You might recognize Jon, the provocative patriarch, as our erstwhile model for our Men's line of shirts...
But the real Belle of the Ball is the buxom and beautiful, Brandi Snow....And of course, we cannot forget our "Littlest Velvet", Miss Isobel!
Even though we don't offer Girls' sizes, we love that Isobel can't get enough of our styles.
It warms our heart to see how much she loves to match with her mum & dad.But it touches us even more than she's always the first to our door, so eager to help out the team. We love our little Hanger-wrangler! With fashion on her mind, we may have a young designer in our midst...
We love that each member actually has their own favourite look -
Of course Jon loves all our Mens' shirts, but as a lover of all things V, the Chrissy & Marie are Jon's fave dresses (who doesn't love adjustable cleavage?) Both Isobel and Brandi are currently Team Brigitte, with our Pandamonium Print on point.
But Brandi admits that she will always have a fond place her in heart for one of her first styles (and one of our earlier designs), a little number named, "Melody".
We think it's so neat that Jon was able to send us this old snap from a past Studio Shop way back at our old Gastown location.
...Could this have been the very moment she decided to say "Yes" to the Dress? ;)
Stay tuned! In next week's blog, Brandi shares her thoughts on aging gracefully and why 95% of her wardrobe is Cherry Velvet dresses! <3
